Advent

Our church follows the calendar of the liturgical year.  Beginning with Advent and progressing through Christmas, Epiphany Season, Lent, Easter Season, and the Season after Pentecost.  These seasons follow the earthly life of Christ as well as his ministry in the world. St. Mary’s is especially blessed to offer special liturgies throughout the liturgical for major feasts and seasons of the church.

Advent

In Advent we watch and wait for the birth of God, the Savior who comes in the form of Jesus Christ.  As it is a season of waiting, our church decorations remain relatively simple without the white and gold that appears with the season to come, Christmas.  We celebrate Advent with the following services:

Advent Lessons and Carols
On the First Sunday of Advent our 10:30 AM liturgy becomes a service of Advent Lessons and Carols with Eucharist.  Based on the “O” Antiphons, this service uses scripture, choral music, congregational carols, and prayer to set the stage of the watching and waiting that we are called to do in Advent.  We hear the story of the preparation for God’s coming in Christ prepare to do so ourselves.
