Day Nine

Good Evening! Today was our last “official” day of the trip (as tomorrow is just a travel day), and while I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed, I will definitely miss all the friends I have made here! We woke up today and had scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, and toast for breakfast. We were then driven to Beale Street in Downtown Memphis were we were able to explore and visit all the different shops. My friends and I really enjoyed taking pictures, looking through record shops, and we all stopped for ice cream when it got really hot outside. Afterwards, we drove to the Mud Island River Park (next to the Mississippi River) where we ate lunch, relaxed, and splashed around in a scale model of the river. Then, we were driven back to the area of Memphis where we were the first day, and my friends and I sat in a little coffee shop where we all wrote “affirmations” for everyone in the group. Afterwards, we drove back to Holy Apostles in Collierville, Tennessee. We ate BBQ/Pizza for dinner, and held a very long reflection in which we talked about how racism has affected our life, and what God has called us to do about it. I will be writing again tomorrow, but just wanted to thank you again for making this trip possible. I really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to tell you more about it once I come home. Goodnight! -Maria¬†Gonzalez
